HEALTH EQUITY
Health equity means that everyone has the opportunity to achieve good health, regardless of their socio-economic status, race, gender, or any other social determinant of health. It means that everyone has equal access to quality healthcare, nutritious food, safe housing, and clean water. Health equity is not just about equal access to healthcare; it also involves addressing the root causes of health disparities and inequalities.
IMPORTANCE OF HEALTH EQUITY
Health equity is important because it affects everyone, regardless of where they live or their socio-economic status. When we have health equity, we have a fairer and more just society. When everyone has access to good health, they can contribute fully to society and reach their full potential. Healthy individuals are more productive, and they are less likely to miss work due to illness. Healthy communities are also more resilient and better able to withstand health crises such as pandemics.
ACHIEVING OF HEALTH EQUITY
Achieving health equity requires a multi-sectoral approach that involves addressing the root causes of health disparities and inequalities. This includes improving access to quality healthcare, safe housing, nutritious food, and clean water. It also involves addressing social determinants of health such as poverty, education, and employment. Health equity can be achieved by strengthening health systems, promoting universal health coverage, and investing in public health infrastructure.
