Leprosy Awareness Rally

Leprosy Awareness Day Rally – Spreading Hope, Ending Stigma

On the occasion of World Leprosy Awareness Day, our college proudly organized a Leprosy Awareness Rally with the aim of educating the public, spreading awareness, and breaking the stigma associated with this curable disease.

Why Leprosy Awareness Matters

Leprosy, also known as Hansen’s disease, is one of the oldest diseases known to mankind. Despite being completely curable, many myths, fear, and social stigma still surround it. Lack of awareness often leads to delayed diagnosis, disability, and social isolation for patients.

As future healthcare professionals, it is our responsibility to bring knowledge to the c community and promote compassion

Rally was flagged off by our Respected Dean Sir  Dr. R.Gunasekaran  sir  . The rally successfully organized by the Department of Dermatology, under the leadership of our HOD, Dr. Karthika Ma’am and other respected faculty members

The rally commenced in the morning with great enthusiasm. Students gathered with placards, banners, and slogans, ready to take a stand against stigma and misinformation.

Before the rally started, a brief talk was given highlighting:

Early signs and symptoms of leprosy

Importance of early treatment

Availability of free treatment under national programs

The need to treat patients with dignity and respect

With renewed motivation, students set out to spread awareness in the surrounding community.

Oath Taking Ceremony

One of the most meaningful moments of the event was the Leprosy Awareness Oath taken by all the students and faculty members before the rally began.

Standing together with raised hands, we pledged to:

Spread correct knowledge about leprosy

Fight myths and social stigma

Encourage early diagnosis and treatment

Treat every patient with dignity, empathy, and respect

The oath reminded us that awareness is not just a one-day activity but a continuous responsibility as future healthcare professionals.

Recognizing early skin patches with loss of sensation

Seeking medical help early

Free treatment availability at government hospitals

Learning Beyond Classrooms

This rally was not just an awareness campaign but also a valuable learning experience for students. It reinforced the importance of:

Community health education

Empathy in healthcare

Preventive medicine and early intervention

Students realized that medicine is not only practiced in hospitals but also in streets, communities, and hearts.

A Step Towards a Stigma-Free Society

The rally concluded with a pledge to continue spreading awareness and supporting those affected by leprosy. Every small effort contributes to a larger goal — a world where no one suffers discrimination because of a curable disease.

Let us remember:

Knowledge cures fear, and awareness brings change.
