Educational Sessions on Breast Health

The breast cancer awareness programme conducted by Dr.A.Srinithya Mam and Dr.S.keerthana from the Department of Surgery  included informative sessions that focused on breast health and self-examination techniques. Medical professionals presented comprehensive information about breast cancer, including risk factors, common symptoms, and early signs to watch out for. The sessions also emphasized the importance of regular breast self-examinations as an essential practice for early detection. Participants were educated about the correct techniques for self-examinations, enabling them to become proactive in their breast health and seek medical attention if any abnormalities are detected.

Panel Discussions with Breast Cancer Survivors

The breast cancer awareness programme also included panel discussions featuring breast cancer survivors who shared their personal experiences, challenges, and stories of survival. The discussions aimed to spread hope and inspire individuals to fight against breast cancer, while also highlighting the importance of emotional support and psychological well-being during the journey of diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. Participants had the opportunity to ask questions and engage with the survivors, fostering greater understanding and empathy within the community.

Community Outreach Activities

In addition to the educational sessions , the Department of Surgery organized various community outreach activities. These included awareness campaigns in local neighborhoods, health fairs, and collaborations with community organizations and women's groups. These initiatives aimed to reach a wider audience and educate them about breast cancer prevention, early detection, and available resources for support and treatment. Additionally, these activities focused on addressing social and cultural barriers that may prevent women from seeking medical attention, emphasizing the importance of breaking down these barriers and promoting regular screenings.

Emphasizing the Importance of Mammogram Technique

One of the key aspects of the breast cancer awareness programme conducted at Namakkal Medical College and Hospital was the emphasis placed on the use of mammograms as an effective screening technique. Professors from the Department of Radiology Dr.Saravannan sir and Dr.Rammoorthy Sir explained the procedure and its benefits in detecting breast cancer even before symptoms become apparent. They highlighted the fact that mammograms enable healthcare professionals to identify breast abnormalities at an early stage when treatment has a higher chance of success. The professors encouraged all women above the age of 40, and those with a family history of breast cancer, to undergo regular mammograms as a proactive measure against the disease.

Poster Making and Slogan Writing Competition

To engage the participants in a creative manner and foster greater understanding of breast cancer awareness, a poster making and slogan writing competition was organized as part of the programme. Medical students, healthcare professionals, and even members of the public enthusiastically participated in the competition. The posters depicted various aspects of breast cancer prevention, detection, and treatment, while the slogans highlighted the importance of regular check-ups, self-examinations, and support for breast cancer patients. The competition not only served as a platform for artistic expression but also provided an opportunity to reinforce key messages surrounding breast cancer awareness.
